Inclement Weather, School Cancellation, & AMI Information
As we enter the winter months and the likelihood of inclement weather increases, we want to share our procedures for communicating school cancellations, schedule changes, and AMI days.
The district will continue to use our Apptegy communication system to send voice calls, text messages, and emails to parents, guardians, emergency contacts, students, and staff. All contact information is pulled from our Infinite Campus student information system. If you need to add or update contact information, please reach out to your child’s school office, and we will be happy to assist you. School cancellations and activity updates will also be posted on the district app, district website, and district Facebook page.
In addition, all school closures will be shared with the public through our local media outlets, including KFMO/B104, KTJJ/KREI, Froggy 96, and St. Louis television channels 2, 4, 5, and 11.
The district will once again use AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) for inclement weather or other unexpected closures. Our DESE-approved AMI plan allows us to use up to five AMI days this school year. Students will complete AMI packets or assignments through Google Classroom as provided by their teachers.
The first three inclement weather days (snow, ice, flooding, etc.) will be designated as AMI days.
The remaining two AMI days will be reserved for other unexpected closures (e.g., utility outages).
Any additional inclement weather days beyond the AMI days will be made up through added instructional hours already built into the district calendar (for example, on select Mondays when school is in session).
If you have any questions, please contact your school office.
Thank you for your continued support. We wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Valley R-VI School District
