Valley R-VI is honored to announce the hiring of Steve McFarland as Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach. Coach McFarland comes to Valley with extensive experience as a high school basketball coach and educator. His career has spanned over four decades, amassing over 500 wins.
Coaching Career & History
Early Stops: McFarland began coaching in 1979. He started in Parma, in southeast Missouri, before taking over the boys' basketball program at Potosi High School from 1981 to 1995. [1]
Farmington High School: He then moved to Farmington, where he built the girls' program into a powerhouse. During his 19-year tenure, he compiled a record of 256-94 and consistently led the Knightettes on deep playoff runs. Under his leadership, the team finished 2nd in Class 4 in 2007 and 4th in 2011.
Festus High School: After initially retiring in 2014, McFarland returned to the sidelines in October 2019 to take over the girls' basketball program at Festus High School. He eventually stepped down prior to the 2023–2024 season.
Honors and Legacy
In March 2024, McFarland was officially inducted into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) Hall of Fame for his decades of service, dedication to the game, and exceptional win-loss record.
He remains a highly respected figure in Missouri athletics, known for running competitive, fundamentally sound basketball programs.

Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) are partnering to offer a day academy for students interested in pursuing a career in the fields of osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, dental medicine or podiatric medicine. As many of you know, Daisy is headed to State for Track for the third year in a row! This is an incredible accomplishment, not only for Daisy, but for our entire school and community. We are so proud of her hard work, dedication, and determination.
We are hoping to have as many staff members, students, families, and community supporters as possible either at the school or lining the streets of Caledonia when she returns home. Your support and encouragement would mean so much to Daisy and her family as we celebrate this exciting achievement.
At this time, we are still waiting on a more detailed timeline for Saturday’s events. We will share additional information as soon as we know her expected return time and celebration details.
Thank you all for helping us celebrate Daisy and for continuing to show the strong support that makes our school and community so special. Go Daisy!
