A Message from Our Principal
With great excitement, I would like to welcome you to another year here at Valley JH/HS.
It seems the summer breaks keep getting shorter (a little hotter too). The staff here at the Valley has been working hard to prepare everything for you to have another great school year. We have made several changes and additions to our building. The school is ready to welcome all our students back.
As the principal, I want to ensure that we are meeting each students’ emotional, social, and instructional needs. I believe we have a strong team of teachers that will help shape and influence the students in a positive way. Our goal is to prepare our students today for the challenges of tomorrow. I am excited to be a part of such a wonderful team of students, teachers, administrators, and community that will exceed at meeting our goal. I want to wish all staff and students a great 2019–20 school year!
Mr. Chad Middleton
Valley JH/HS Principal
Valley Junior and Senior High’s curriculum aligns with the Missouri Learning Standards to prepare our students for college and career. To help our students create a successful school experience tailored to their needs, all students at Valley enroll in an advisory period and link with an advisor to help them get the most out of their high school experience and make long term plans for college and/or career.
We are dedicated to ensuring our students are equipped to meet the challenges they will face tomorrow! For our students who desire a more rigorous class lineup, we offer AP and honors classes. Students who wish to jump-start college (and earn both high school and college credit at the same time) will enjoy our dual credit course offerings. And those who want a more in-depth look at specific careers will have the opportunity to join our work-study program or develop skills in career education.
Earn Dual Credit with Mineral Area College
Valley High School offers courses that allow students to earn high school and college credit at the same time! Utilizing our partnership with Mineral Area College, students can enroll to receive English composition, literature, and public speaking credits before they leave high school! All courses are taught on campus during regular school hours and are administrated by our high school staff.
To be eligible, students must:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Have a GPA of 7.0 or higher (3.0 on a 4-point scale)
- Have earned an 18 or higher on the English portion of their ACT
For every three hours of college credit successfully completed, our students will earn one high school credit towards graduation. Each participating student is responsible for submitting a final grade transcript to his or her counselor for this credit to be applied. We weight all dual enrollment courses +3 points towards our students’ GPA.
Students are responsible for all costs associated with enrolling in Mineral Area College courses. However, Valley R-VI School District will reimburse half the tuition costs of each course that is completed with a C grade or higher.
Arcadia Valley Career Technical Center has partnered with us to provide students with access to vocational skills in computer networking, auto mechanics and repair, health, business, graphic design, welding, agriculture, and maintenance. Career Tech students spend half their day at Valley High School in regular education classes and the other half at AVCTC developing vocational skills to use after high school. Valley R-VI School District provides all transportation for students attending AVCTC.
